Bakie's Back, BB!

The Bakery's back in business for 2021 and no, it's not a venue 😉

We are excited to announce plans for a Studio Residency Program in 2021. The program will focus on providing direct support to working artists with one-on-one guidance to help them build practical skills for their creative careers. We will be releasing the application and further details in the upcoming days! ✨

If you are in a position to give this holiday season, please consider a monthly donation 🥂 https://thebakeryatlanta.com/donate

The Bakery is a collective of creative thinkers aligned around social justice principles, environmental concerns, and the belief that art is pivotal to existence. We utilize and critique technology as it changes the human landscape. Our previous space was unified around a DIY ethos which we carry with us into future projects. Youth Activism GA - "John Lewis: Good Trouble" Screening & Zoom Party

Young activists in GA: join us for a screening of the acclaimed documentary "John Lewis: Good Trouble" and our "Zoomin' to the Polls" Party!

20+ years before John Lewis became a congressman... he got into Good Trouble as a YOUTH ACTIVIST!
So as young activists and youth-led organizations ourselves, we're calling on young good troublemakers across Georgia to join us in experiencing John Lewis' story through a dynamic film screening & discussing youth activism at our zoom party!

Film streaming: The film will be available to stream whenever you can watch between Oct. 23-Oct. 27 using the link you will receive as part of your Eventbrite/Facebook ticket.

Zoom party: Then, at 7pm on Tuesday Oct. 27, join us for Zoomin' to the Polls! A conversation about youth activism in America, causing Good Trouble, and why Atlanta is the city of the future.
Hosting your own film discussion: Want to discuss the film and the fight for voting rights with your friends, class, or youth organization? Use our discussion guide!

Please learn about, get involved with, and support the work of these co-hosting organizations: Black Youth Vote! GA , CivicGeorgia , Co-Created , Emory REDI , Future Coalition , Georgia Coalition for the Peoples' Agenda , Georgia NAACP Youth & College , Restore More , The Bakery Atlanta , Urban League of Greater Atlanta
We're thankful to our sponsors & film partners: MTV Social Impact , Participant Media , Magnolia Pictures , and Vote Early Day !

--
Voting Info & Reminders

The election is live in Georgia! We know some of us can't vote yet, but if you can, please vote early! Good trouble includes being an informed, active participant in our democracy, so take these steps as part of your civic action--
- Track your absentee ballot (https://voice.civicga.org/ballottracker)
- Find your county's ballot dropbox (https://vote.civicga.org/dropbox) locations if you need to drop your ballot off (we recommend this if you still have your absentee ballot)
- See your personal *sample* ballot today (https://voice.civicga.org/mvp) and take time to learn more about your elections & candidates
- Check your early voting locations (https://voice.civicga.org/mvp) if voting in-person is your preferred method
- Learn more about the Make Good Trouble campaign (http://makegoodtrouble.com/)

As you go through these steps, if you have questions or run into any issues or concerns, contact us at hello@civicga.org or 678-532-8120.

Open House + Farewell

Open House + Farewell

As many of you know, our three-year lease at 825 Warner St SW ends on June 30th. In light of recent events, we have had to pivot many times over the past three months and any prospect of a future iteration is highly uncertain. However, we are hosting a final Open House instead of any type of event in order to give away remaining possessions and allow folks one last chance to visit if they want.

Depending on interest, we might add additional safety measures and increase precautions but, in the meantime, the following is required:

- masks (bring them, wear them, keep them on)

- constant social distancing

- arrive in small groups and sign-in

If you plan to leave with any objects, we encourage a truck, dolly, and gloves, maybe a moving buddy too. Donations welcome via Venmo @thebakeryatlanta and Cash App $thebakeryatlanta. Stay tuned for more details.

Stay safe and we'll see you Sunday ☀️

Negative Pressure: Landscape 3 Opening Reception - (CANCELED)

All are welcome to attend the premiere of Eddie Farr’s Landscape 3 as part of his Negative Pressure installation series. The series presents interactive environments based on computer generated landscapes. Guests are invited to explore the fabricated space where their interactions with embedded sensors in the floor will cause surreal motion in soft elements overhead. Landscape 3 is composed of a network of sensors, a large fabric element, and a grid of motors suspended from the ceiling.

The series is a result of Farr’s experiments with early computer generated landscapes and his desire to give guests control over the experience of his work and the process of creative discovery. The calming yet uncanny installation aims to renew a sense of wonder and curiosity in the built environment and inspire imaginative alternate realities.

Opening Reception: Thursday, April 16 7:00-9:00pm

Artist Talk & Closing Reception: Sunday, May 10 2:00-4:00pm

Gallery Hours: Monday – Friday 12:00–4:00pm

Each event will include featured speakers that will talk about something unusual that they are unnecessarily passionate about, like bird-watching. We know this sounds ridiculous but that’s the point: to network and build professional skills, like public speaking, in a playful environment over a cold drink while exploring new locations around Atlanta!
