Something's Missing - Exhibition Recap

Something’s Missing: Highlighting the work of black photographers

Something’s Missing was on view April 1 - 4, 2021 at The Bakery South Downtown. This exhibition highlighted life through the lens of Black photographers. Curated by Zachary Francois, Something’s Missing was the culmination of their time in The Bakery’s studio residency program. Their goal of this show was to uplift Black photographers and showcase their work as a step in correcting the historical disadvantages they have faced.

Featured artists included: Arielle Bobb-Willis, Alexis Childress, Glynn Kavozia, Danae Antoine, Jillian Browning, Keamber Pearson, Jourdan Barnes, Arieanne Evans, Jaleel Porcha, Juanese Davis, Demetri Burke, Benjamin Willis, Chelsea Mukenya, Kendall Bessent, and Kelli Mckinney.

“I’m curating this show as an ode to those artists who paved the way for us, who were recognized by major institutions. Our homage also includes artists not previously recognized, yet who richly contributed to contemporary photography.”
