Millie Rose Evans takes our hand and leads us into a place where dreamscapes meet the waking life of a city adventure. Her music video for “Do You Feel the Same” is synths on a slow parade through New York City. Evans sings “Is that the radio/No it’s just my dreams”  as we wade through the heavy waves of synths and back beat that feels like laying in a waterbed. This might be the most apt release for our current state of affairs. “When I created the video and wrote the song, I had no idea what was about to befall NYC, and later the rest of the country”, Evans told Plasma via email.  It’s a glimpse at what a city used to look like pre-covid. Evans mused,” Now this work seems like a postcard from the past.” We rarely get the chance to reflect on all that we have and all that we are at risk of losing.

The video like the song follows dream logic and how our memories work. They are out of focus, rushed or slowed down, and many times washed out. In a nutshell, when we fall in love or go on a great adventure we only remember the highlights. “I edited with cool tones of blue and purple to fit the melancholy undertones of the song, but sped up the clips to match the rush of lovey feelings that inspired the melodies and chorus to begin with”, Evans remarked. The meticulous pace of the song acts as a counterbalance to the pace of the shots. While many of the shots are sped up the song slowly crashes and recedes as if it is trying to hold onto those sweet and tender moments that are gone all too quickly.
