"No Victim’s Song" is a solo exhibition by emerging artist Alexis Childress, dissecting themes of Black female empowerment and Black female legacy. Using a retro yet futuristic aesthetic, this exhibition constructs a world that is unbound by time and celebrates beauty, the meaning of identity and the power within the Black matriarchal line. When the word legacy is talked about, it is often referred to in a patriarchal sense. No Victim’s Song accentuates the matriarchal side of legacy, exploring the idea that every woman is a culmination of her ancestors’ lives and through our bodies and minds we have access to the past, present and future energies of the women in our bloodline. Using photographs of her own body combined with found imagery, paint, neon lights, sound and various textures, Alexis manifests a new identity within each artwork. Provoking self-portraits and installations that stretch through time and expand the meaning of existence, self-perception and ancestral identity.

The exhibition is on view from Thursday, September 23rd to Sunday, September 26th with an opening celebration on Friday, September 24th from 6-10pm. Your donation-based ticket is good for any day that the gallery is open.
