Local collective, YES MA'AM, raises $4,000 for Amplify-GA!
On August 21, 2022 The Bakery hosted YES MA’AM for the 3rd time.
YES MA'AM is an art party fundraiser that began in 2017 when 2 friends (Amanda Norris and Hannah Alexander) turned their house into a gallery. That first year, YM raised about $500 for Partnership Against Domestic Violence. In 2018 they raised $2,125 for Feminist Women’s Health Center, and in 2019 they raised $3,200 for the ACLU of Georgia, which was actively fighting the abortion ban in Georgia at the time.
After a 2-year long hiatus due to COIVD, YES MA’AM came back in full force in 2022, raising a total of $4,000 for Amplify-GA! Amplify is a collaborative of seven local reproductive health, rights, and justice organizations: ARC-Southeast, Feminist Women’s Health Center, National Asian Pacific American Women’s Forum, New Georgia Project, Sister Song, SPARK, and URGE.
The exhibition featured 50+ artists, each of whom donated work to be sold with 100% of the profits going towards the cause. YES MA’AM not only fundraises money for grassroots feminists causes, but it also celebrates local artists and brings them together. Several friendships and artist collaborations have sprouted at YES MA’AM events!
YM is more than an art show, it’s a vibe. Thanks to DJ $uga Rice bringing the jams, the community canvas, and the DIY photo booth.
