Then What Live Lit Open Mic ft Kimberly Van Laningham

Then What is a live literature series featuring writers of all genres with a focus on narrative. This month is our first-ever open mic, and we are looking for your original pieces relating to the theme of "resurfacing.” The connection can be as literal or as symbolic as you want; the theme is meant to inspire rather than limit.

The list goes up at 7 and is open to all as long as you're not gonna get up there and be racist/homophobic/misogynistic/transphobic/antisemitic/otherwise show your entire ass. Please keep work to five minutes or less so we can see as many writers as possible!

We are absolutely delighted to introduce this month's feature, Kimberly Van Laningham. Kimberly Van Laningham’s first storytelling experience occurred when she was three years old as she told her family of the fictional “other family” she had before them in order to make them jealous. What started out then as a symptom of Youngest Child Syndrome later evolved into a lifetime passion for storytelling. Kimberly is a storyteller, writer, and comedian in Atlanta and she absolutely loves when opportunities allow her to showcase all three. She holds a BA in Theatre & Performance Studies and a Professional Writing minor from Kennesaw State University, where she was also an ensemble member in both the improv troupe KISS and the storytelling troupe the KSU Tellers. Kimberly continues her improv comedy training at Dad’s Garage and trains in improv and comedy writing with Second City Chicago. She plans to never stop learning and hopes one day to write for television, but for now she is thrilled for the chance to perform her self-written stories. Just imagine a television around her, a catchy theme song, and enjoy the show where she plays all the characters. If you’re kind, she might leave out the commercials.

There will be a donation jar and all proceeds will go directly to the feature.
